Center for Teacher Education

The establishment of this center is for preparing our students to devote their abilities to the secondary level of education (from grade 7 to 12) , and the aims of our center are as follows:
1. To understand multi-cultural education;
2. To enhance English comprehension;
3. To appreciate different native languages, and encourage students serve their communities when possible ;
4. To get involved into community and school services, so that the students can be trained as an all-around teacher to meet the changing society.


Admission

All DYU students who are sophomore (or above) may apply to the Center at the end of each school year. All applicants, after submitting an application form, are required to take the following two tests:
1. General educational knowledge test.
2. Interview.

Each year a total of 23 students will be permitted to our program.


Course Overview
1. Required courses:
Courses include Introduction to Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Sociology, Philosophy of Education, Principles and Practice in Guidance and Counseling, classroom Management, Teaching Methods and Materials, and Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

2. Elective courses:
Each semester the center will offer a variety of courses to let the students select according to their self-interests. Those courses are as follows: Developmental Psychology, Gender Education, Educational Statistics, School Administration, Psychology of Creativity, Computer & Media Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, Theory and Practice of Counseling, Techniques of Behavior Modification, and etc.

3. Teaching Practices and Internship:
Every student should practice teaching and take a six-month internship before graduation.
